Romantic 40s Silk Love Story Evening Coat

The weather has been oh so cold here in upstate New York…..makes me want to fade into a good book as soon as the night falls, which is delightfully sweet and early. I still lust after vintage, no matter how cold and how much I crave comfort, how about you? Last week once again I was out seeking vintage. My treasure hunts take me to new and old magical places.

Have just found a lovely vintage 40s black and cream tweed suit with scallops down the center front of the classic fitted jacket. There are also wide split cuffs and finger pockets with flaps…and the classic fitted skirt to match. Simply dreamy! Also….a superb classic-cut fluffy white swing coat happened my way, no doubt drawn to me by my inner cravings. Both of these beauties to be added shortly…just did the photo shoot today….so do keep a look out. Many other new beauties as well….full dresses and cashmere sweaters, sweet skirt and sweater ensembles….I am working hard creating the presentations.

Zhu Yingtai is a beautiful and intelligent young woman, the ninth child and only daughter of the wealthy Zhu family of Shangyu, Zhejiang. Although traditions of that era discourage females from going to school, Zhu manages to convince her father to allow her to attend classes in disguise as a young man. During her journey to Hangzhou, she meets LiangShanbo, a scholar from Kuaiji (present-day Shaoxing). They chat and feel a strong affinity for each other at their first meeting. I had wonderful vintage dreams last night! These precious dreams, whenever they do come to me, leave me filled with joy. Am I not truly possessed? Yes, I think I am…..so had to awaken and show you this super sheer flocked beauty, that I was pleased to find and list not too long ago. What could be better than wearing a new favorite vintage outfit as you go out partying? Every treasured garment and accessory is unique saying so much more about you and your individuality. Isn’t it disheartening that so many new styles these days are only remakes of our vintage delights of cherished days gone by? What’s with that? You would think that today’s designers could come up with all new styles to dazzle, instead of borrowing their  “new looks” from the supremely innovative ideas of past eras….but they fall short. No slightly changed copy can ever compare with the real thing. And…..if you are a believer of vintage spirit magic as I am …the stories carried in the threads are not there to help create new moments to treasure ….no mystique, no magic….so sad.

Wow, we’re deep into summer now, aren’t we? Half the country is baking hot, hot, HOT……. so we have no complaints here at Vintage Lucy Heaven, upstate New York…just dreamy hot enough weather with an occasional cooling shower. The vintage beauties keep coming in…..so we have listed some unique stunners recently, the 60′s culotte set in forest green corduroy, a fancy ghost gray evening pantsuit dress with silver beaded trim, a lovely tummy-showing tropical full skirt dress from Indonesia, and a very striking Canadian 40′s sweater dress set with a dynamic hot melon chevron design highlighted in metallic gold and creamy white angora….just to describe a few. Sheer Boho Dress with Gold Rings

It’s summer, and oh-so-hot in over one third of the US and there are fires out west…difficult times, still we go forward as there is no other way to go…….no sense in being too sad and morose as we feel for everyone affected and send our caring thoughts. We find ourselves still loving our vintage and collectibles and finding solace in these beauties from yesterday. Just maybe they bring us luck, through the waves of soothing time gone by and center our minds and spirits on the delights of these precious garments and their lives at 50s parties, 40s days at the beach on vacation, and 60s rock concerts, freeing us from concerns of today.

We are being very lucky up here in the north country…upstate NY. I do hope you are fortunate also, and just maybe you are as you have found yourself here at Vintage Lucy today. I have not been keeping up with this new blog, though labor of love it is…….am trying to work it into my daily routines but this hasn’t happened so far….just am too busy watching the world and using my Vintage Lucy time for finding new beauties and shooting photos to keep the collection here growing and fresh. I have been enjoying my cherished return customers as you come back for seasonal treasures, and have also been noticing many new names, being drawn to Vintage Lucy for the first time, buying unique personal collections for their vintage wardrobes…..so many dynamic and mysterious names, and I can only imagine the faces with the kind notes as we communicate back and forth.

Vintage Mood Swings as Spring Comes and Goes

Just saying a quick “hi” here. We’ve been forever reorganizing after our move to New York. It does take so much time, and just when we think we’re done, up pops another box or new deliveries, then we are at it all over again.

These days the weather surprises us most of the time, one day freezing, the next day it’s 80! What are we vintage lovers to do? Buy for the cold and warm days year round, learn to dress up our light weight cottons with sweaters and tights, boots or sandals? Hmmmm. It is getting very tricky. We best keep a smile on our faces, as the fickle weather gives us great reason to shop and buy what ever our wayward spirit tells us at any given moment. No need to have a plan as these days all plans are rendered null and void. It all opens our inner doors to freedom and fancy in our never ending search for the elusive rare vintage find that will somehow satisfy our dreams for the moment, and transform us to be the unusual trend setters that we certainly are…..”oh vintage, drape us in your mysterious stories!” Vintage Lucy will try hard these days as always to keep up with listing new playful kitsch items along with the elegant party dresses that are so classy and sought after. Moire Taffeta 50s Dress with Heart Scatter Skirt

The Holidays are over. Valentine’s Day is soon to be. Spring is just around the corner. Still the weather keeps us guessing with it’s never ending twists and turns…then there’s monster waves, moaning and singing Earth tones, comets and shooting stars, shaking Earth and so much more to make us wonder at the times…  We could all do with a little normal these days….something to make us believe every thing is as it should be.

True vintage with it’s playful, treasured history gives us a steady, sure past, one we can believe in, one full of movie stars, silent films, cherished times when children played outside making stone and stick cities in the grass, blanket tents hanging from the clothesline, and dressing up in grannie’s and gramp’s old clothes….long before the days of electronics zooming around and in our heads like so many worried frenzied bugs and bees. Think real true vintage! Maybe a full skirt with a lovely sheer blouse, or a cotton dress with buttons and pockets and colorful twists and turns you can no longer find on new clothes these days. Oh sure, there are mass produced retro clothes, styled after the treasures of the past, but they are not the real thing.
